Abstract

In this study, clinical status, treatment, acute phase proteins, oxidant and antioxidant status, changes in serum biochemistry and hematological parameters in Bovine Respiratory Disease Complex (BRDC) in cattle were investigated. A total of 30 cattle were used in the study. The sick animals included in the study were divided into two groups. Group I (n = 10) given tulathromycin + flunixin-meglumine + Vitamin E and selenium combination. Group II (n = 10) given tulathromycin + flunixin-meglumine. Blood samples were collected one time from the control group (n = 10), and four times (pre-treatment and in 1, 3, 5 days of post-treatment) from the patient groups. Serum acute phase proteins (Hp and SAA), biochemical and hematological analyzes, total antioxidant (TAS) and total oxidant (TOS) levels were determined from all samples. Pretreatment (day 0) serum Fe and Ca concentrations in both disease groups were significantly (P<0.05) lower compared to the control group. It was observed that these parameters improved parallel to clinical improvement with treatment. It was determined that the total leukocyte counts of the patient groups were significantly higher than the control group before the treatment. In both treatment groups, pre-treatment serum amyloid A and haptaglobulin levels and TOS levels were higher than the control group (P<0.05). In conclusion, it was found that significant increases occurred in serum Hp and SAA concentrations in acute phase proteins and serum TOS concentrations in oxidative stress parameters in Bovine Respiratory Disease Complex, and that there were significant hematologic and biochemical changes in this disease.
