Abstract

The consolidated coastal tourism destinations must respond to new needs for urban-ter-ritorial transformation, within the framework of competitiveness and sustainability. Such needs require the implementation of comprehensive and sustainable tourism management models, from a multidimensional perspective. The proposed objective is to elaborate a diagnosis of Miramar (Buenos Aires) that considers social needs and management trends in order to analyze a scenario of the city as a sustainable tourist destination. The methodology consisted in performing a descriptive evaluation analysis through diagnosis of needs and integral conditions of urban management and a trend analysis through the modeling of a scenario considering the environmental sustainability capacity of the city, the dimensions of sustainability and the principles of sustainable cities. The results determined that Miramar’s sustainability depends on improving inter-municipal and public-private coordination and integration, systematizing, and adapting interventions, formalizing participation and stimulating environmental awareness among the population for the internalization of pro-environmental values.
