This is a corrigendum and clarification on behalf of the authors. We noticed an error in the citation of the last sentence in Sect. 4.2 (Tarrés et al. 2018). The study by Tarrés and colleagues focuses on fibers and biocomposites, and not on nanocellulose. 2 Land occupation and land use change evaluation 4.2 Land use change: The current (imprecise) sentence is: “Moreover, cost efficient production routes are being studied in order to transform these residues into biochemicals, bioplastics, biocomposites (Filgueira et al. 2018) and tailor made nanocellulose (Tarrés et al. 2018) as suitable replacements for similar fossil-based materials (Brodin et al. 2017).” The phrase should be: “Moreover, cost efficient production routes are being studied in order to transform these residues into biochemicals, bioplastics and biocomposites (Filgueira et al. 2018, Tarrés et al. 2018) as suitable replacements for similar fossil-based materials (Brodin et al. 2017).” We apologize sincerely for this mistake and for any inconvenience caused.
