Abstract

Several thousand patients are diagnosed annually with head and neck cancer (HANC) in the United Kingdom. This represents a significant proportion of all cancers that are diagnosed and a common treatment modality for this is radiotherapy to the head and neck region. Radiotherapy can be highly successful in managing HANC but also has several side-effects in the oral cavity and associated structures. These sequelae present considerable short and long-term problems for dental professionals involved in the care of HANC suffers. © 2013 Macmillan Publishers Limited. All rights reserved.
