The cause of the activity loss of Ti/RuO2 and Ti/(RuO2 + TiO2) electrodes during the anodic evolution of oxygen was investigated. On the basis of the information obtained, it was presumed that the most serious causes are probably penetration of electrolyte through cracks or pores in active layer and dissolution of active layer or RuO2, both of which lead to the formation of a resistive TiO2 film on the Ti base.
