Poland A B S T RAG T. A review is presented covering the experimental and theoretical aspects of infrared spectroscopy of hydrogen bonded liquids. The discussion is mainly limited to the study of the hydrogen stretching bands perturbed by this interaction. It is shown that their profile is generated by complex relaxation processes in which several oscillators, coupled by anharmonic forces, are simultanously relaxing. These processes are very fast, and the liquid acts, in essence, as a static disordered medium.
