Laparoscopy is a frequently used technique for sterilization and differential diagnosis of pelvic pain and ectopic pregnancy. Anesthesiologists and surgeons are aware of the rare, but potentially lethal, complication of gas embolism. This is a report of a carbon dioxide embolism during abdominal insufflation for laparoscopy in which the patient survived.
