Abstract

This chapter discusses sampling designs and related issues for conducting household surveys using area frames and face-to-face interviews, through a case study from the International Tobacco Control (ITC) China Survey. It reveals some of the challenges faced by large scale household surveys with stratified multi-stage sampling designs and ambitious research plans with lengthy questionnaires, and provides some useful tips and tools for conducting such surveys.
