Abstract

Owing to the unique traits of palm, palm-based biometric is one of the increasing trends of authenticating the user in most commercial applications. A review of existing literature shows significant work being carried out towards authentication of the palm; however, the existing studies are witnessed to exclude some practical impediments towards authentication measures. The proposed study identifies two essential practical impediments, i.e., illumination condition and variance in palm texture during database building and authentication, leading to the unreliable authentication system. Therefore, the proposed system introduces a simplified and novel preprocessing approach where multi-variant discrete algorithms address these practical challenges, where poor signal quality poses issues in the authentication. The study outcome shows the beneficial aspect of all the algorithms under varied conditions.
