Minimally invasive techniques in scaphoid fracture fixation

Abstract

Scaphoid fractures are a common fracture in young active adults. Historically, most of these fractures were treated with a cast or large open invasive procedures. These forms of treatment are poorly tolerated in this active population. Advancements in fixation and surgical techniques have allowed more predictable results with shorter periods of immobilization utilizing minimally invasive fixation. The volar and dorsal approaches will be compared and contrasted. The techniques, indications, benefits and risk of these procedures will be reviewed.
