Abstract

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic abdominal pain condition associated with diarrhea, constipation, or an alternation of both (Longstreth et al., 2006; Remes-Troche et al, 2009). Prevalence rates of IBS are remarkably similar across various ethnic groups around the world; however, methodological concerns and differences in access to health care limit these findings (Sperber, 2009).
