Optical control of spins in the highly symmetric Heisenberg antiferromagnet KNiF3 is demonstrated. It is shown that Impulsive Stimulated Raman Scattering of light by magnons, combined with time-resolved magnetooptical detection, allows the generation and detection of antiferromagnetic resonances with unprecedented high sensitivity.
