In the summer of 1985 I had the opportunity to carry out research in the Svalbard archipelago (on the islands Edgeøya and Hopen) as well as on Bear Island (Bjørnøya). Most of the time (three weeks) was spent at thse station of the Netherlands Foundation for Arctic Biological Research at Kapp Lee (NW coast of Edgeøya). I wish to thank this Foundation, the Beyerinck Popping Foundation and the Biological Subfaculty of the University of Utrecht for their grants.
