Abstract

Perhaps the defining element of an active magnetic bearing is its actuator. This is the combined system of amplifiers and electromagnets which, together, convert electrical signals from the controller (force commands) into actual forces applied to the rotor. The objective of this chapter is to detail the interaction of these components in order to understand the design and modeling of the combination. © 2009 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
