INTRODUCTION. Over recent years, the teacher training of university personnel has attracted growing interest in Spanish universities. This study looks at the evolution of training courses that targets lecturers at the University of Burgos, through the analysis of plans and training strategies completed since the 2000/01 academic year up until 2010/11. The training (courses, one-day conferences, seminars) is structured around different programmes: Teacher Training in the European Framework of Higher Education, On-going Training of Lecturers, Initial training of New Lecturers and Language Training. The relevance of this study, which is part of a broader investigation, is that it seeks to respond to the emerging demand for the evaluation of training actions for lecturers at Spanish universities. Few initiatives exist in this area and this study is the first of its kind in the context of the autonomous region of Castilla and Leon. METHOD. A descriptive quantitative design is employed using data from the databases and the records of the Institute of Training and Educational Innovation of at Burgos University. The RESULTS show a notable increase in the number of training actions over time, up to a total of 431 (which implies 3738.45 training hours and 12.177 places on in training courses). The highest rates of attendance were recorded over the three last academic years under study. Training actions relating to New technologies applied to teaching highlight supply and demand, followed by those related to the Renewal of teaching methods. Improvements are linked to the modality of distance learning (e-learning), the efficacy of training plans and the evaluation of training outcomes.
