Abstract

The chapter begins with an explanation of narratologynarratology and narrative inquiry. It describes different types of narrative textsnarrativetexts that one can collect to conduct positioning analysis in applied linguistics research. After describing the link between positioning theory and narrative inquiry, the chapter introduces BambergBamberg, M.'s (1997, 2012) and SøreideSøreide, G.E.'s work (2006) on narrative positioningpositioningnarrative. It concludes with two example narrative textsnarrativetexts to illustrate how narrative positioningpositioningnarrative analysis is conducted, and how positioning and narrative analyses complement each other.
