Abstract

The authors showed with a simple model how it can be understood that an oscillating elec. field can drive an enzyme-mediated reaction away from equil., even if substrate and product do not interact with the elec. field. They also showed how 2 nearby membrane enzymes, both whose catalytic cycle involves a movement of a charge, can interact in such a way that 1 conversion, going energetically downhill, can drive another conversion energetically uphill. A model was presented of a coporter that works through this electroconformational coupling. [on SciFinder(R)]
