Engineering change (EC) occurs frequently in manufacturing enterprises. Since many engineering changes have similarities, reuse of finished changing implementation processes or plans will promote changing efficiency and product benefits. In this paper, ontology methodology was used to present knowledge in engineering change cases. The engineering change knowledge was abstracted to engineering change objects, engineering change programs, and engineering change events, the conceptual system and properties of which are also expressed. At last, a changing case about addition of locking bolts and nuts in automobile wheels was used to show knowledge representation in detail. © 2012 Springer-Verlag GmbH.
