In the past 20 years, organic molecular crystals and conducting organic polymers have been prepared in a variety of forms where electrical conductivity can be systematically controlled over a range of 10 orders of magnitude. Recently, a number of potential applications have emerged from this research. This paper provides a brief overview of current research into the possibility of using organic polymers and charge-transfer complexes to fabricate electronic and optical devices. © 1987, The Society of Polymer Science, Japan.
