Abstract

This chapter presents a review of the current situation of women in Italy by focusing especially on the impact of Italian social and economic conditions on women's physical and mental health. In particular the chapter addresses the following three issues: (a) socio-economic conditions and gender inequalities as a framework for the prevalence of mental disorders among Italian women; (b) violence against women as a negative issue impacting on women's physical and mental health; (c) status of health and mental health of immigrant women in Italy.
