The hotel sector is one of the most dynamic tourism industries in Spain and one of the most important industries for the Spanish economy. Proof of this is the large number of growth strategies that are continuously carried out by Spanish hotel companies. Within these growth strategies, this paper focuses on geographic diversification strategies. More precisely, we analyze the evolution of the international diversification of Spanish hotel chains during the years 2008- 2014 and its relationship with performance. Moreover, we investigate the relationship between geographic diversification and other firm-specific factors such as size and age.
