Abstract

Papaya (Carica papaya) is a plant long established in Hawaii, having een brought to the Istands before 1823. It has been under study by the Hawaii Agricultural Experiment Station since 1902, but most of the investi- gations have been on cultural requirements and selection. The rapid rise in commercial importance of the fruit in recent years makes it lnecessary to know something of the changes occurring in the fruit during ripening, as a basis for harvesting, storage, and shipnment.
