Abstract

The aim of this research is to optimize the turning parameters for AISI 4140 by using vegetable oil as cutting fluid with help of coated carbide insert of TNMG 160408. The output parameters selected for this research are MRR, power consumption. The analysis of output parameters is done experimentally with input parameters of speed, feed, depth of cut and cutting oil. Three different types of vegetable oil are selected for machining that are castor oil, soybean oil, palm oil. The work experimentation carried out with L27 orthogonal array design with four cutting parameters, i.e., speed, feed, depth of cut and oil. Optimal conditions for power consumption and MRR were determined using signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio.
