A course in international logistics management was established at Boston University in the 1987-1988 academic year. The goals of the course are to acquaint the student with the classical tradition of logistics and to develop sensitivity to global management issues. The course is taught primarily using the case method. Cases are drawn from such sources as the Harvard Business School Case Clearinghouse, the Council of Logistics Management International Cases, and Babson College. The course is divided into 2 parts. The first section is spent on such basic topics as: 1. inventory management, 2. material procurement, 3. facility location, 4. transportation, and 5. distribution system design. The 2nd part of the course focuses on the international dimension. Overall, the international logistics course has been well received by the students.
