Abstract

ER70S-6 Filler wire is used for welding weathering steels for various applications like landscape and garden architectural design, storm water management, roofing and walls in construction. During the welding of weathering steel using GTAW or GMAW welding process, the residual stress formation on the weld zone leads to failure. When these welded weathering structures are exposed to extreme atmospheric condition, corrosion also occurs in the weld joints. Hence in this research, an attempt is made to prepare a novel tri-coated Cu-Ni-Cr Filler for welding weathering steel by three stage electroplating process. New Filler NFGTAW weld joints are prepared using novel tri-coated Cu-Ni-Cr Filler and further the mechanical and metallurgical properties of the NFGTAW weld joints are investigated.
