This paper gives some biological and ecological aspects corresponding to thirteen species of caridean shrimps collected in the Santa Marta region. For these species a short description of the biotops inhabited is given and an altitudinal zona-tion in the rivers is made according to distribution and preference for the biotops corresponding to each species of shrimps. Keys, descriptions and illustrations are given to identify the various species as well as some ecological aspects. The descriptions are illustrated with additional drawings made by the author with the purpose of making easier future identifications.
