Abstract

When I first read the table of contents of The Magnetic Field of the Earth: Paleomagnetism, the Core, and the Deep Mantle , I admired the authors for attempting to write an up‐to‐date, integrated treatment of almost the entire subject matter of geomagnetism and paleomagnetism. That is a heroic undertaking even if Geomagnetism and Paleomagnetism is one of the AGU's smallest sections. The gulf between observationalists and theoreticians is particularly wide in geomagnetism, which makes the effort to bridge that gap as important as it is difficult. The authors are reasonably successful in this enterprise.
