Abstract

This article analyses the performance of baseball team Pittsburgh Pirates. RHP Jose Mesa made a favorable first impression. The coaches believe minor adjustments to Mesa's mechanics will allow him to get a better downward plane on his fastball and regain the command and confidence he lost last season. Craig Wilson is taking grounders and fly balls and warming up pitchers in preparation for his role as the team's supersub. Rookie LF Jason Bay has received praise from scouts for his advanced plate discipline, but that selectivity often puts him behind in the count, and he strikes out a lot.
