Abstract

This paper introduces a system for monitoring physical activity of elderly. The position based monitoring system requires accurate calibration methods mapping the camera coordinate system onto a room based system. An algorithm mapping a coordinate system defined by a 3D camera onto an external coordinate system is presented. The algorithm requires three sets of points to be known, which are each located in orthogonal planes. This method only requires one image while no calibration objects or measurements are required. © 2010 International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering.
