Abstract

Eleven battered babies who had ocular manifestations of their abuse are presented. Eight of these suffered a permanent impairment of visual function. Ten had extensive intraocular haemorrhage, and the importance of this physical sign in the diagnosis of the syndrome and in the development of a consequent visual handicap is emphasized. © 1971, British Medical Journal Publishing Group.
