Abstract

Ovis vignei includes populations considered earlier as O. vignei arkal, O. vignei bocharensis, O. vignei varentsovi and O. vignei (Tsalkin 1951; Nadler et al. 1973). Three subspecies occur: O. v. vignei Blyth, 1840 (SW Pamirs Mountains); O. v. bocharensis Nasonov, 1914 (W Pamirs, Uzbekistan); O. v. cycloceros Hutton, 1842 (Badkhyz, Kopet-Dag Range, Bolshoy Balkhan Range, Ustyurt Plateau) (Grubb 1993).
