By the year 2030, nearly 20% of people in the USA and in Western countries will be 65 years of age or older. Many studies showed that a balanced diet and a regular physical activity can help prevent some of the health problems associated with aging and reduced mobility. Among these problems related to aging, the sexual function continues to be an important aspect of the quality of life of elderly people. It is well known that midlife changes may be too late to reverse the effect of some risk factors (like smoking or obesity) on erectile dysfunction (ED) in males and sexual dysfunction (SD) in women. In contrast physical activity may reduce the risk of SD (in particular in men) even if initiated in middle-aged people. Consequently, early adoption of healthy lifestyles (aerobic and strengthening exercises), balanced diet, and pelvic floor rehabilitation, when needed, may be the best approach to reducing the burden of ED in men and sexual responsiveness and well-being in older women.
