Abstract

One of the considerations for the patient to decide on is the incision to be used for breast augmentation. The intraareolar incision allows adequate access to create the underlying submammary or submuscular pocket by incising through the breast parenchyma. The incision does not form keloids or hypertrophic scars, but it may have slight loss of pigmentation when a textured implant rubs against the incision area when being inserted. This loss of pigmentation can be treated with tattooing, but in the author's experience, no patient has requested that treatment. © 2009 Springer-Verlag.
