Abstract

This paper presents the theory and practice of object relations couple therapy. It applies Fairbairn's basic object relations theory of personality development and Klein's concept of projective and introjective identification to treating the marital joint personality. Clinical vignettes emphasizing transference and countertransference illustrate theory, technique, and therapeutic change.
