Abstract

Le2 has special features in both syntax and semantics, and should not be put on an equal footing with le1. Based on the framework of split CP hypothesis, this paper discusses the syntactic status of le2. It finds that le2 is a Fin element, located outside the clause to mark the overall state of the clause. For this reason, its occurrence will not be affected by the existence of the negative marker in a clause (while le1 will be affected).
