Abstract

The Technical Secretariat, a member of the intergovernmental committeesestablished under bilateral arrangements between Japan and fourrepublics of the former Soviet Union, is undertaking over ten projectsfdr the purpose of eliminating nuclear weapons, including: theconstruction of a floating disposal facility for low-level radioactiveliquid wastes; participation in the construction of storage facilitiesfor nuclear materials; the supply of medical equipment andpharmaceuticals; the supply of emergency equipment; the supply ofequipment for a retraining centre for retired servicemen; and theestablishment of a control system in support of the International AtomicEnergy Agency (IAEA) safeguards programme.
