The 21st century has brought great challenges and technological advances. The surge of new data added to the Web (2.5 quintillion bytes/day) is exponential. This phenomenon is called Big Data and 50% of this amount are health-related. In this context, it is necessary to identify, extract and analyze critical information for decision making. The use of Web 2.0 tools can assist in this regard. Whereas diabetes is a public health problem, as there are in the world more than 382 million diabetics, and studies show that this number is liable to increase 55% and reach 592 million in 2035, and, according to IMS Health, antidiabetic sales will reach US$ 50 billion in 2015, there is a need for new management tools for decision makers. Tendencies such as innovation by way of oral insulin, stem cells, kidney drug action, smart insulin infusion and vaccines have been noticed as a likely change in the therapeutic scenario for diabetes.
