Abstract

Iodinated non-ionic contrast agents (see figure 1) became standard contrast agents in the best sense. They were introduced more than 20 years ago and during these twenty years, millions of patients suffering from every conceivable disease, newborns, pregnant women as well as multimorbid elderly patients, patients with serious conditions such as generalized atherosclerosis, acute brain or cardiac infarctions, advanced cancer, severe cardiac insufficiency, impaired renal or hepatic function and patients of all races and living all over the world received non-ionic contrast agents by any conceivable route of administration. © 2008 Springer Medizin Verlag Heidelberg.
