Abstract

Upper extremity injuries are common in gymnasts. The wrist is the most commonly injured upper extremity joint in the female gymnast and second only to the shoulder in the male gymnast. Wrist pain prevalence appears to be associated with participation level. The duration of pain can last up to 1 year. Wrist pain has been associated with older age, increased training durations, and training at higher skill levels. Predisposing factors in wrist pain development include improper equipment, incorrect techniques, previous injury, delayed skeletal maturity, and growth spurts.
