Abstract

Medical imaging devices play a key role in today's healthcare technology. They have traditionally been focused on diagnostic purposes, but are today applied in many advanced therapeutic and monitoring procedures as well. While physicians are still the final decision makers, they are supported by a variety of imaging modalities and the corresponding image processing and viewing tools. The applied systems are selected on the basis of their sensitivity and specificity for the diseases in question. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.
