Abstract

Value-based requirements engineering plays a critical role in software development because it seeks to align requirements with the organizational strategy that drives business value. This chapter discusses the value proposition of service-oriented architectures and proposes a value-based decision mechanism for requirements engineering for service-oriented systems. In doing so, it lays the groundwork for future research into the important but relatively unexplored area of service-oriented requirements engineering. © 2009 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.
