Abstract

Immersive entertainment is an important driver of mixed reality platforms. As technology becomes better and cheaper, this will spark the next major shift in digital entertainment. We identify nine research topics on immersive entertainment across theoretical-scientific, creative, systems, and social dimensions. For each topic, we discuss possible research directions that can lead to advances in the field. This chapter is an extended version of a paper originally published in the proceedings of the XX Brazilian Symposium on Computer Games and Digital Entertainment. Each of the topics is discussed in more depth and a separate challenge for input devices and body tracking was added.
