Abstract

Introduction: This research seeks to improve early development processes in children, aged 2 to 5 years, evaluating the strategies for improving laterality, which they advance within the institution and configuring innovative techniques. Course Objective: To improve the laterality in children between two and five years old from the Institute of Recreation and Sports in Tunja-Boyacá (IRDET) using the Harris Test of lateral dominance as a strategy of early identification. Methodology: This study is a qualitative approach. The methodology used was the investigation action. The research was carried out in 84 children (40 girls, 44 boys) from the Psychomotor Development Program belonging to the IRDET. To achieve the goal of this study, the test was applied in four groups according to the age, gender, and physical education in this order: 1.- 2/3 years; 10 girls, 13 boys; 2.- 3/4 years; 16 girls, 11 boys; 3.- 4/5 years; 7 girls, 11 boys; 4.- 5/6 years; 7 girls, 9 boys; Results: The Harris test was applied individually to each child, to study theirdifferent psychomotor skills were made different tests about the upper laterality (10 hand tests), lower laterality (10 feet tests), hearing (3 ears tests) and visual (3 eyes tests). Conclusions: Showed that children have different degrees of laterality according to psychomotor skills. In other words, the children of two years old have different laterality trends in comparison with children from four and five years old. In this study is argued, the relationship between the age and the laterality development of the children from the Psychomotor Development Program belonging to the IRDET.
