Abstract

This paper discusses the influence of organizational culture on the glass ceiling phenomenon - women 's difficulty in ascending to the higher positions of a large financial institution with units scattered throughout the State of Pernambuco. The qualitative and exploratory research was carried out using the following data collection instruments: panel interviews, document analysis and non-participant direct observations. Data were analyzed using content analysis. The responses to the interview were confronted with the elements / dimensions and cultural levels present in the organizational culture concepts of Schein (2009) and Fleury (1989). In the results, it was identified that there is no formal impediment, within the company, to the feminine ascent to the managerial positions, but also that the organizational culture does not respond in a significant way by the phenomenon.
