Abstract

An important nitrogen exchange process that has not been considered in the nitrogen cycle and atmospheric chemistry is presented. The exchange process suggests that soil nitrite can release HONO and explain the reported strength and diurnal variation of the missing HONO source that is necessary to explain field measurements. © Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 2013.
