Abstract

Progress in the analysis of halo-blight disease is described. Three avirulence genes, avrPphB. R3, avrPphE. R2 and avrPphF.R1 from P. s, pv. phaseolicola, respectiveiy matching resistance genes R3, R2, and R1 in bean, have been cioned and sequenced. Each of the genes is regulated by hrpL and encodes hydrophilic proteins. Expression of the cluster of hrp genes with the avirulence genes in E. coli allows elicitation of a cultivar specific hypersensitive reaction. The possible construction o. a hrp- dependent signal delivery system by both P.s, pv. phaseolicola and E. coli in the plant is discussed.
