Abstract

This papers deals with the investigation of the linear dependence and independence of freedoms and constraints in a given mechanism by the application of matroid theory. A new and original approach, based on matroid theory, is proposed and applied for solving two different problems of mechanism: enumeration and selection of self-aligning mechanism kinematically equivalent to a given mechanism. Two novel algorithms are presented and examples of application are provided.
