The objective of this study is to present an analysis of the initial formation of teachers of Basic Education in 58 courses of Bachelor of three public universities of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, with emphasis on the study of curricula and their curricular matrices. It is a documentary research that is based on the analysis of curriculum documents pertaining to the teaching training in the graduations. We conclude that the studied degrees need to deepen in their curriculum the systematic study of education. We believe that, by this way, we will be able to think of more significant teaching initial training processes regarding the study of teaching, the main axis advocated by educational entities and social movements in history for the formation of teachers in Brazil, which is central reference in the new national curriculum guidelines for the initial and continuing training of teachers of basic education.
