Abstract

Thrombosis in dogs is an uncommon complication of disordors such as hyperadrenocorticism, heart disease, and protein-losing nephropathy. Diabetes mellitus and hypertension may enhance hypercoagulable states and predispose dogs to development of thrombosis. In the past, treatment of thrombosis has been largely by means of supportive therapy, consisting of administration of anticoagulants and platelet inhibitors. Streptokinase treatment of thrombosis in 4 dogs was successful with minimal adverse effects.
