Abstract

The December 26, 2004, tsunami was the most deadly tsunami (280,000 people killed) in recent history which led to one of the greatest disasters in historical times. This entry explores a broad range of scientific investigations in the Aceh province, Indonesia, from geophysical aspects (tsunami sources, offshore and overland tsunami propagation, and its geomorphological effects) to social aspects (damages, people’s vulnerability, interpretations of precursory signs, etc.).
